The Jaguar Academy of Sport has recently had its third Annual Awards where five of the fifty Rising Stars were provided with Special Recognition Awards for their fantastic sporting achievements over the year. Those awarded were Jack Walker, Joshua Ward-Hibbert, Sophie Pyatt, Sam Ibbotson, and William Deary.
Crystal Barker, boxer from Salford competed in the Junior Europeans held in Poland and won gold in the 52kg.
Kahoru Harazawa, swimmer from Surrey, has had many competitions in the last month, which have proved very successful. He has set a new Open Age S10 British record in the 1500m freestyle. The record had been standing for the last 14 years and he beat the record by 13 seconds. At the short course Nationals event he won two gold (100IM and 200IM) and two silver medals (100 fly and 100 breast). For the multi-class he won three bronze medals and had four personal bests out of six swims.
Sam Ibbotson, slalom canoeist from Doncaster, has finished his 2012 season on a high. He is ranked number one U16, number two U18 and 11th in the overall rankings. He is now starting winter training moving up to the Olympic Development Programme (ODP). Sam has also received a Special Recognition Award from the Jaguar Academy of Sport for his excellent sporting achievements.
Sophie Pyatt, swimmer from Stoke on Trent, has travelled to China for a 3-week training camp at the Shanghai Oriental Green Boat Training Centre. Whilst in China Sophie competed in the Chinese Trio Cup where she won the 100m back and received a Chinese Commemoration Award. Sophie has also received a Jaguar Academy of Sport Special Recognition Award.
Jack Walker, rugby player from Settle has had a very busy season playing a lot of high standard rugby and has also signed a four-year contract with Leeds Carnegie. He is in the England U17 squad and hopes to progress to the U18 squad. Jack was one of the five Rising Stars to receive a Special Recognition Award from the Academy.
