Athlete Resume

2010 was a tough year for Tom as he moved up a class in order to keep pushing himself and improving. He won silver at the Inland Championships and is looking to improve in 2011. He finished 5th in the Laser Radial RYA Volvo Youth Championships in April held at Hayling Island Sailing Club, with a win in race 5.

Tom got involved in sailing through an after schools project at his junior school. Ben Ainslie is Tom's sporting hero because of his determination and medals he has won at five different Olympic Games. Tom hopes to qualify for the Radial Youth World Championships this year and in the longer term is aiming to sail at the Olympic Games. In his spare time, Tom coaches children at his local sailing club.

  • Coming 5th Junior at The World Laser 4.7 Championships in 2009
  • 9th out of 841 competitors at the Lake Garda Easter Regatta, Italy 2008 and top British competitor
  • Selection for the British Optimist Worlds team and finishing top British competitor and winning the final race of the series

 Aims

  • Move into the Olympic Development squad and compete in Laser Standard
  • Qualify for the Youth World Championships in La Rochelle and finish in the top 10
  • Compete in the Olympic Games
